A V-SpecialChristmas

13th December 2000 was indeed a very special Christmas for many.
On this day, Keppel Group, DBS Bank and Ngee Ann Polytechnic
in partnership with the National Volunteer Centre (NVC)
hosted a massive Christmas party for about two hundred special
children.

The Keppel Volunteers committee spearheaded the project and the members
spent countless hours organizing and preparing for the event. Their
selflessness was duly rewarded, as the party was a roaring success.
The Ballroom was bustling with activity as the many volunteers
from the three corporations greeted the children and ushered
them to their seats.
The party started with a bang - it was a joy to see the children
enjoying the games played. There was not a frown in sight.
The rest of the afternoon was jam-packed with goodies -
besides the games, there was a performance by volunteer
balloon artistes.
What is Christmas without Santa Claus? Jolly old St Nick
went around with his huge red sack giving out gifts to the
children. The biggest gift from Santa arrived with a drum
roll and a flourish of curtains.
Michelle Yeoh along with the Gen Y Cops artistes from Hong Kong made
a special appearance to the party. What a treat it was for
the little ones as well as for the volunteers!
The presence of Michelle Yeoh and the other celebrities
were expected to help people, particularly youths, realize
that volunteering can be fun and dynamic, especially when
they volunteer by doing what comes naturally.
"A V-Special Christmas Party" ended on a happy note - every
child had a gift to take home. Each had on them a smile
on their face, which was reward enough for the volunteers
as well as the organisers.
