FamFest
2001
FamFest 2001 was a community arts festival that combined social work with
the arts. For its pioneering year, the focus was on issues and concerns encountered
in everyday family life.
There were four main programmes:
Family Affairs
An entertaining doublebill presentation of Late Nights and Waiting, two short plays that
took audiences on a thought-provoking journey of resolving conficts and managing
differences in the family.
Let's Talk - A 'Live' Talkshow
The first ‘live’ talkshow presented in Singapore. Each instalment of the talkshow
addressed separate issues which were pertinent to family life today, with real people
who shared real experiences.
In the Lenses of Youth
Through three short film stories, 7 youths explored their views on women in their lives and
depicted how they saw the world around them. There were also workshops and discussion
sessions.
Dreaming Up a Prince - Role-play workshop
"Dreaming Up a Prince" was a short play that touched on the issues of teenage dating,
first sexual experience and parental guidance. After the play was staged, participants
were involved in discussions and role-played to "set right" some of the difficulties
surfaced in the play.
In addition, there were a series of talks and forums organised by NLB which sought to
inform, educate and exchange experiences and perspectives on factors which are important
for a family’s well-being and the role of the arts in the community. Experts and
specialists in the respective fields shared and led in the discussions.
