What took place
The
seminar was on Learning Plus, a parenting tool to enhance and stretch family time.
It was for busy parents who wished to balance a demanding career and a meaningful life.
It catered specially to parents of children between the ages of ten months and six
years, and who wanted to establish family bonds early and give their children a
headstart in school. Learning Plus teaches the skills of making audio recordings
of everyday family activities.
The seminar was attended by an audience of about 50 persons. It was presented
by Mrs Lim Ming Choo who developed Learning
Plus, and her daughter, Lim Joo Lee who gave her perspective as a subject of the
programme and its positive effects on her. The seminar started with an overview of
the programme and how different families could adapt it to suit their contexts.
This was followed with a demonstration of how parents could use it when reading to
their children and the learning points that could be incorporated. Samples recordings
were played. Before the end of the session, participants expressed an awareness of
an easy way to help them bond with their children, as well as a heightened awareness
of the need for the early teaching of values to help their children establish standards
of behaviour.
